Samsung has recently unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Tab, powerful new Android powered tablet device. Offering a wealth of impressive and cutting-edge features, this is the ultimate all in one gadget.
Whether you are looking for a comprehensive multimedia device, a productivity tool for the office, a powerful portable web browser and all round communication device, the Samsung Galaxy Tab ticks all the boxes.
The 7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen utilises a pixel configuration of 600x 1024 to display up to 16M colours. Along with it’s built in accelerometer sensor, this makes it ideal for viewing photos and video footage in high definition. The screen also includes the TouchWiz user interface, multi touch input method and a proximity sensor.
The unit measures 190x 120 millimetres wide and a surprisingly slimline 12 mm. It is also a lightweight device which is 380 g, which is surprising considering the amount of technology which is packed into it, and also means it is more portable than you may think.
Either 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage is provided as standard along with 512 MB RAM, depending on which model is purchased. Even the basic 16 GB version is therefore capable of storing a large number of files, and both versions have an integrated microSD card slot which can accommodate a memory card of up to 32 GB, providing the potential to store thousands of files.
One of the tasks that this handset does best is surfing the web on the go. In areas with 3G coverage, and HSDPA connection provides download speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second (alongside HSUPA at 5.76 mega bytes per second). Where local wireless networks are available, Wi-Fi connectivity means users can enjoy a faster browsing experience. Unlike its main rival, the Apple iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is also a phone. GPRS & EDGE provide it with access to cellular networks, whilst Bluetooth and micro USB connections allow users to connect to compatible hardware devices such as computers and other phones in order to carry out tasks such as backing up contact information and transferring media files.
A built in the 3.15 mega pixel digital camera operates at a pixel resolution of 2048x 1536 pixels and includes Autofocus and an LED flash. The camera also boasts the ability to shoot video footage, and there is even an additional camera located on the front of the device which can be used as a web cam and a video call camera.
The operating system of choice is Android 2.2 (Froyo) which is a powerful and versatile operating system which works perfectly in conjunction with a powerful 1 GHz processor to provide an ideal platform for expansion and customisation. The power of the hardware and software combined with features such as access to the Android Market means the sky’s the limit in terms of entertainment, productivity and versatility.
With advances in technology resulting in devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the way we view mobile phones may be changing sooner than we thought.
