Does keeping the charging cord always in the laptop ruin the battery?
I never really use the laptop away from my desk so it’s always kept plugged in, does this ruin the internal battery? Is it bad to constantly leave your laptop plugged in?
1, When using a laptop as a desktop replacement the battery should not be left in for long periods of time. The laptop will over time discharge the battery. Remove the battery – making sure that it is charged to 40% and store it in a dry, warm place. Ensure that it is wrapped protectively and nothing will be dropped on it.
The battery should be re-installed every 3-4 weeks and allowed to fully discharge. Leaving a battery in storage for longer than this without using could cause the battery to fully discharge as the circuitry of the battery itself consumes power.
Leaving a battery in a laptop while using an electrical outlet for long periods of time will keep the battery in a constant state of charging up and that will reduce the life cycle of the battery.
Remember that when you have removed the battery from a laptop while using with an electrical outlet – the automatic battery backup is no longer functional. Make sure to plug your laptop into an uninterrupted power source (UPS) not directly into an outlet or surge protector.
2, Change the settings so your battery starts to recharge at around 88%. Anything above that will have an ill effect on the life of your battery.
Otherwise, it is OK. Just make sure teh fans are getting decent exposure and the laptop is ventilated well.
3, Yes it does, with time your battery power will be less this would weaken the battery cells, some new laptops has battery control it disconnect the charger automatically if the battery is fully charged, if u don’t unplug it, u can do this, charge the battery to 3/4, remove it and store in a regular temp place, u can use ur laptop without battery, u can do this again every month
4, If you keep it plugged in, you could always just take out the battery, and not worry about overcharging it. But yes, keeping the battery charging constantly will make the battery drain a lot quicker.
5, constantly charging the battery ruins its life. makes the battery die quicker.
my battery doesn’t last more than an hour and a half either way(yes gaming laptop), and I’ve been doing it this way/my dad has been for as long as I can recall?
Guess i haven’t experienced this…
And i just double checked..
From what I understand, keeping it plugged in with the battery fully charged bypasses the battery, to just run off of the AC power.
My power source says “AC power” and not battery, so my battery isn’t being charged as far as I can tell..
