Apple and Google are testing a way to link YouTube with the iTunes Store, offering links to video available for sale on iTunes beside selected YouTube clips.

Apple has been experimenting with strategies to link iTunes up with social networking websites, and offers a referral scheme to those who want to link their sites up with the service.

Early reports suggest the new system’s in testing right now, as the iTunes links are appearing beside only a handful of YouTube clips (such as one from Kanye West), and the move is only visible to US users at this time.

That Google seeks to make revenue from YouTube is well-known, the company admitted as much during its financial results announcement last week. It’s possible the company hopes to generate a little cash by sending sales across to iTunes, under an affiliates agreement.

AT&T yesterday updated its iPhone website, promising use of 17,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the US as included within the regular iPhone tariffs – only to remove all references to this later that day.

The company briefly last week switched on Wi-Fi access at its hotspots across the country, switching it off just a few days later.

At the time, the company offered no information on its moves, but it then updated its page to promise: “Access to AT&T’s more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, including Starbucks all for use in the US.”

That AT&T updated the information on the company’s iPhone pages (in the Plans section, and albeit briefly) strongly suggests access to the hotspots will once again be enabled at some future point – but AT&T’s being pretty coy about it.

UPDATE: Late afternoon (US time) AT&T once again removed all reference to the free hotspot plan from its site. Sorry for the confusion, but we’re as confused as anyone else, given the company has refused to issue a clarification on the affair.

UPDATE 2: Revised more of the copy to help prevent confusing readers choosing to skim the tale.

Overwatch Junkertown COUNTDOWN – Release date, time for PS4, Xbox One map, update | Gaming | Entertainment

developer Blizzard is about to release the Junkertown map on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

After a successful testing period on the Overwatch PTR, Blizzard has given the Junkertown map a September 19 release date.

There’s no official release time for the map, but Overwatch updates typically go live at around 7pm UK time.

The Junkertown map is expected to launch alongside a new update for Mercy.

As part of the Mercy update, the popular will only be able to resurrect characters on an individual basis. This will be a regular move with a cooldown period.

Her Ultimate ability  – which currently revives all downed teammates – will be replaced with a move called Valkyrie. Valkyrie boosts Mercy’s abilities and power, and even grants her the power of flight.

Junkertown, meanwhile, is a new Escort map set in the Australian Outback. You can see it for yourself in the gallery below…

“Junkertown is an Escort map located in the harsh and unforgiving Australian Outback,” the official description explains.

“Constructed from the remains of a destroyed omnium, it’s now the home to a band of lawless scavengers known as the Junkers, led by their cutthroat Queen.

“When they aren’t pillaging the omnium’s skeleton for anything of value, the Junkers blow off steam in the Scrapyard—a massive gladiatorial arena whose combatants fight for glory, riches…and to survive.”

Fans will also want to keep an eye out for the Junker Queen, who can be seen in posters and heard over the loudspeakers in a recent trailer (below).

The release of the Junkertown map will be followed by another free weekend on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

From Friday, September 22 until Monday, September 26, fans can play the entire game for free on consoles and PC.

The Overwatch free weekend has an 7pm UK start time and ends at 6.59am UK time.

Fans will be able to try all of the maps, game modes and characters, and can even unlock Loot boxes.

Any progress will be transferred to the full game if they decide to purchase it.

It’s Time to Unleash Nvidia (NVDA), Jim Cramer Says

Shares of Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) are off to a strong start Friday, climbing 4% so far in the morning session. “It’s time to unleash Nvidia,” TheStreet’s Jim Cramer said on CNBC’s “Mad Dash” show.

Prior to Friday’s trading session, NVDA stock had been flatlining; it hasn’t been rallying or falling. The stock was up just 59 basis points over the past month. On Friday, though, it’s showing life.

If it gets above $174, it can breakout, Cramer reasoned, explaining that this has been the prior high to get through. With a move above, perhaps NVDA can gain some momentum and really turn on the jets. Currently trading at $176, that breakout may be igniting.

One thing Nvidia has going for it is superior fundamentals. While it has a high valuation, it is seemingly in all the right businesses; be it artificial intelligence, video games, robotics, self-driving cars or data centers, Cramer reasoned. All of these industries are seeing strong growth and that’s helping to propel Nvidia’s business forward, as well as its stock.

However, one industry not doing that well? Cryptocurrencies. China’s ban of ICOs (initial coin offerings) and its crackdown on trading is hurting cryptocurrencies. So is JPMorgan (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon’s comments, calling bitcoin a “fraud.”

Why does this matter for Nvidia? Roughly 10% of NVDA’s revenue comes from the graphic cards that are sold to cryptocurrency miners. Less miners equals less demand, which in turn results in lower sales for Nvidia. On the flip side, more demand equals higher sales for Nvidia.

A recent analyst note from Evercore ISI basically says investors should instead be more focused on Nvidia’s A.I. developments, Cramer pointed out. The market doesn’t fully appreciate what Nvidia is capable of in terms of earnings and as a result, the analyst raised their price target to $250 from $180.

NVDA stock has been unstoppable, Cramer said, concluding that “Nvidia is a loved stock.” Shares are up 195% in the past year and 678% over the past two years.

Okami is being re-released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC – here’s why you should get it this time

Okami is a game about a sun goddess in the body of a wolf who uses a magical paintbrush to alter the world and defeat evil. It was originally released in the long, long ago of 2006 for the PS2, developed by the now-defunct Clover Studio. Despite being a critical darling and receiving multiple ports over the years, the game has never been a huge commercial hit. But that could all change this December, when Okami HD comes to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

If all you needed to hear was “Okami on modern platforms for $20” to be sold on the idea then here: It’s gonna be Okami on modern platforms for $20. For the rest of you, wondering why you should pick up an 11-year old game about a wolf and a paintbrush, let me lay it out for you:

Clover Studio housed some of the industry’s best talent

Before it was dissolved, Clover was home to some of the most highly-regarded developers in the industry. Both Shinji Mikami (director of Resident Evil and The Evil Within) and Hideki Kamiya (director of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta) called the studio home, and went on to found other, successful companies when it was shuttered (Tango Gameworks and PlatinumGames, respectively). If you’re a fan of games like Viewtiful Joe, Vanquish, or God Hand, you should see what else these creatives were capable of.

It’ll keep you busy

Tired of games with short adventures that peter out before you do? Okami looks like a fairly straightforward action game, but it’s more of a Zelda-style RPG. There are tons of sidequests and collectibles to find. The site How Long to Beat puts the main story at just shy of 37 hours (with 136 players weighing in), and the completionist run at just over 57 hours (with 73 players polled). According to the site, a “leisure”-paced completionist run will eat up nearly 80 hours of your life.

You can actually learn a bit of Japanese culture

Now, this isn’t to say that Okami is a 100% accurate representation of the Shinto religion or Japanese customs, much like Metal Gear Solid should not be the basis for your US History report. But there are nuggets of truth in there, like Amaterasu, Orochi, and Susano all being inspired by real-life folklore. And since you’ll sometimes need to use the magic paintbrush to create Kanji, you can even learn a few words and symbols. If you like Japanese culture, Okami is very true to its heritage.

This version supports 4K and widescreen

The PS3 HD re-release also supported widescreen, but Okami HD for PS4, Xbox One, and PC adds in the extra-nifty feature of 4K resolution support. If you couldn’t tell from the trailer alone, this is a game hailed for its visuals, so popping it up onto a 4K television should only make it prettier.

It’s $20 / £16

Apple shares Apple Watch LTE battery stats: 1hr talk time, 4hr GPS + LTE workout, more

Following the announcement of the LTE Apple Watch earlier today, Apple is sharing more detailed information on battery life. While it still touts that the Apple Watch Series 3 gets 18 hours of battery life, there are some contingencies to that when LTE is in use…

Spigen TEKA RA200 Airpods Earhooks Cover

On its Battery Information webpage, Apple breaks down its testing process, as it has done for every iteration of the Apple Watch:

Apple Watch is so capable you’ll want to wear it all day long. So we made sure we gave it a battery that lasts all day, too. Our goal for battery life is 18 hours after an overnight charge, factoring in things like checking the time, receiving notifications, using apps, and doing a 30-minute workout.

Apple Watch battery testing was conducted by Apple in August 2017 using preproduction Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) and Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular), each paired with an iPhone.

This year, the addition of LTE brings new testing information to the table. Just like it does with the iPhone, Apple has broken out specific usage numbers for when LTE is in use.

Apple says that when connected to iPhone, the Apple Watch Series 3 should get up to 3 hours of talk time. When connected to LTE, however, that talk time falls to “over 1 hour.” That’s a pretty notable difference and one that will likely hinder how many people use Apple Watch Series 3 while connected to LTE.

Furthermore, as far as workouts, Apple estimates that the Apple Watch Series 3 will get about 10 hours of battery life for indoor workouts and 4 hours of outdoor workouts with GPS in use. If both GPS and LTE are in use, that estimated life falls to 4 hours.

Tested with heart rate sensor on during workout sessions. Indoor workout tested while connected to iPhone via Bluetooth. Outdoor workout with GPS tested with Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) without iPhone. Outdoor workout with GPS and LTE tested with Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) without iPhone.

One bright spot is music playback, which sees a bump from 6.5 hours to up to 10 hours. This, however, is when Apple Watch is connected to iPhone via Bluetooth. Apple doesn’t offer battery life for when you stream from Apple Music using the Apple Watch’s LTE connection.

All in all, these battery life numbers are interesting if not a little disappointing. Using LTE will certainly take a toll your Apple Watch’s battery life, but that’s seemingly the price you pay for iPhone-free life.

All of Apple’s battery life information for Apple Watch is available here. Do these numbers influence your decision when it comes to buying the LTE Apple Watch? Let us know down in the comments.

Destiny 2’s Toughest Exotic Quest Is A Frantic Race Against Time

Think Destiny 2 is a little too easy? Good news: The quest for the Rat King sidearm is just the kind of extreme challenge you might be looking for.

Destiny 2 players will occasionally receive multi-step quests that, if they can finish them, will each reward you with an exotic weapon. In the first Destiny, the quest for the hand cannon Thorn was the most notoriously difficult one. Not coincidentally, it was also the most rewarding. After The Taken King expansion launched in 2015, the challenge to obtain the Black Spindle sniper rifle dethroned Thorn as the new toughest, most rewarding quest in the game. Now, there’s a new contender.

Over the weekend I completed all three of Destiny 2‘s currently completable exotic quests. I’ve got the Rat King, the MIDA Multi-Tool scout rifle, and the hand cannon Sturm. The Rat King was easily the toughest to finish, and the most rewarding.

It starts with a quest on Titan, one of the blue missions that open up after you finish the story campaign. It’s called “Enemy of My Enemy,” and it’s not too hard. At the end, you’ll get something called “Rat King’s Crew” in one of your kinetic weapon slots. It’s got a riddle attached, and if you want to solve it on your own, be my guest. If you don’t want to know how to do the quest, stop reading!

Here’s the solution for anyone who doesn’t want to work it out. You need to complete these steps, in order, with at least one other person who has the quest:

  • Do three patrol missions
  • Do two public events
  • Do two Crucible matches together
  • Complete the Nightfall with at least 5:00 left on the clock

If you already did the Nightfall strike, you probably read through that list thinking “Fine… no problem… easy… what.” If the first three steps are a piece of cake, the last step is a piece of rebar through the sternum.

Destiny 2 changes the formula for the Nightfall strike by introducing a timed element. Each enemy you kill adds some time back to the clock, but if the clock hits zero, you have to start all over. It’s not clear if every Nightfall will have a timer, but the next three will, at the very least. Next week’s will also have the prism modifier, Bungie just announced.

On this week’s Nightfall, “The Arms Dealer,” you have to make your way through a bunch of wide-open arenas, dunk some energy cores, blow up some tanks, and defeat a major asshole boss named Bracus Zahn, all while managing a rotating elemental “burn” modifier that forces your team to take turns as the party’s primary damage-dealer. Once you know what you’re doing, it’s not that hard to finish before the timer runs out. But finishing with 5:00 left is another thing entirely.

On Saturday two Destiny friends and I teamed up to get the final Rat King step done. We’d all done the Nightfall multiple times and were getting pretty comfortable with the strike, but even so, we had no idea what we were signing up for. It took us hours to work out a way to do it. If you want to see what immense triumph and relief looks like, watch this clip of us finally taking Bracus down:

In the end, it wasn’t a wild strategy or some secret shortcut that got us to the end on time—it was simple memorization, careful play, and a little luck. If you’re trying one more time tonight before the reset, here are the best tips I can offer:

The only shortcut you can take is when you reach the open area when you call your sparrows. Ride under the bridge and jump up the other side, and you can just bypass that entire fight.

Go under here:

And then climb up the platforms on the other side so that you can go straight into the next area:

Other than that, don’t take shortcuts. Kill every enemy in every room as quickly as possible, and it should keep your timer above 10:00 for the majority of the strike.

The most important thing is to melt the boss’s health at the very start of the final showdown. Save your supers for him, and when your element is up, hit him with everything you’ve got. You should be able to get him down to at least half health, which will cause him to bypass his first shielded phase after jumping up to his tower. That gives you a crucial second opportunity to kill him when he lands.

After we finished I saw a slightly different strategy on Reddit, where all three players saved same-element supers (Arc, in this case) for the boss and triple-teamed him the minute the arc burn went into effect. I’m not sure that would’ve worked for our team, since our supers were also very important for getting us to the room in the first place, but it sounds like a solid strategy if you can make it work for you.

If you can finally bring the boss down, you’ll be rewarded with an extremely weird gun. The Rat King doesn’t look like much at first glance. It’s a decent sidearm, but I don’t much care for sidearms in general and certainly wouldn’t roll with one in my kinetic slot. It gives you a few seconds of invisibility if you reload after a kill, which is funny and potentially useful.

Its most interesting attribute, however, is that it gets a buff when you’re near other players who are also using it. The buff isn’t much with just two of you, but with three, the fire rate jumps noticeably. The buff stacks six times, which suggests it’ll be useful in the raid, but at the moment there’s no way to team up with a full team of six to test how high the buff goes. Maybe it’s not actually that much better, but maybe it goes full-auto and spits explosive bullets. We’ll find out later this week.

As much as I’ve enjoyed Destiny 2’s story and post-story missions, part of me has missed the teamwork and focus that the first game’s toughest co-op challenges demanded. It was nice to feel that again, and it’ll be interesting to see whether next week’s Nightfall makes it easier or harder to get the quest done. Part of me hopes it’s easier, so that the people who didn’t manage it this week will have an easier time of it. Part of me hopes it’s harder, since hey, man, it was hard for me.

FIFA 18 Demo release date CONFIRMED for PS4 players, same time as Xbox One | Gaming | Entertainment

Strangely, there hasn’t been a confirmation from EA Sports directly and as such, we’ve had to check the official Microsoft Store for further details on when the FIFA 18 Demo release date will be arriving on Xbox One.

What we do know is that PS4 players will be able to access the free playtest on September 12, on PS4, reportedly at 1am, BST.

AMD Narrowing The Gap With Nvidia: Time To Buy – Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD)

AMD (AMD) has joined hands with Baidu (BIDU) for optimizing software for AMD’s Radeon Instinct GPUs in Baidu’s datacenters. As a result, AMD’s open ROCm 1.6 software platform will better compete against Nvidia’s (NVDA) CUDA GPU computing software platform.

AMD is leaving no stones unturned to become a strong player at the datacenter level. This article delves deeper into AMD’s recent initiative and estimates its probable impact on AMD’s stock price.

AMD’s Software Optimizing Initiative

ROCm, the acronym of Radeon Open Compute Platform, has been made to become as popular as Nvidia’s proprietary CUDA (compute unified device architecture) toolset in the HPC (high-performance computing) environment. This is essential for AMD to grab Nvidia’s datacenter market share. AMD’s new Radeon Instinct MI25, MI8, and MI6 accelerators needed an advanced heterogeneous processing approach. The open ROCm platform, coupled with MIOpen framework libraries, will help developers rely less on OpenCL, the industry-standard heterogeneous processing platform led by the HSA Foundation.

Although OpenCL is an efficient platform for mobile and desktop PCs, for HPC workloads, such as deep learning, inference and training, OpenCL is far less robust compared to Nvidia’s CUDA. Now that AMD has developed ROCm, the company needs to popularize it by spreading the platform across the globe. Via partnering with Baidu, AMD will be able to achieve this goal.

Why Baidu?

Baidu is equivalent to Google (GOOGL)(GOOG) in China. Baidu offers (1) search services in China and internationally, (2) transaction services like mobile games, wallet, maps etc., and (3) iQiyi, an online video platform that shows licensed movies, television series, etc. These activities has made Baidu a real hyperscale player. The Chinese search giant recently released its conversation-based AI (artificial intelligence) platform DuerOS. In addition, the company released its Apollo autonomous driving platform, which Baidu’s COO Qi Lu called the “Android of the autonomous driving industry, but more open and powerful.”

Baidu has partnered with Nvidia to use the latter’s Volta GPUs in its AI ventures, including Baidu Cloud and Apollo autonomous driving. Baidu is specially interested in deploying Nvidia’s HGX architecture with Tesla V100 and Tesla P4 GPU accelerators for AI training and inference in its datacenters. Amid this scenario, it makes perfect business sense for AMD to collaborate with Baidu to popularize and optimize its ROCm platform.

Beating CUDA Isn’t Easy

Although beating CUDA isn’t an easy task, AMD can certainly narrow the gap it currently has in competition with Nvidia. Despite the fact that Nvidia is a stronger opponent, and CEO Jensen Huang spent huge money to develop CUDA, the recent rise of AMD proves that even Nvidia isn’t invincible. According to The New York Times:

“The cost to the company was incredible,” said Mr. Huang, 54, who estimated that Nvidia had spent $500 million a year on the effort, known broadly as CUDA (for compute unified device architecture), when the company’s total revenue was around $3 billion. Nvidia puts its total spending on turning GPUs into more general-purpose computing tools at nearly $10 billion since CUDA was introduced.

The point is AMD can’t out-compete Nvidia’s ecosystem just yet, but can certainly throw competition toward Nvidia, albeit gradually. Why has Baidu agreed to collaborate with AMD, despite its ongoing partnership with Nvidia? Because it believes AMD’s hardware and software products have potential to compete with those of Nvidia.

Investors’ Angle

In my last article on AMD I opined it would be difficult for AMD’s MI series GPUs to out-compete Nvidia’s Tesla V100 just yet because ROCm needs time to mature. The recent development that AMD is partnering with Baidu to optimize its ROCm software platform will help ROCm to mature quickly than I previously anticipated.

Baidu is not a small company. If it shows interest in AMD’s datacenter initiative, that should be construed as a positive development from investors’ point of view.

Meanwhile, the year-end is approaching, and investors should now focus on AMD’s 2018 financial performance. AMD’s annual sales growth is expanding at a CAGR of approximately 4% since the last five quarters. I believe in the next five quarters its sales growth will rise at a CAGR of around 5-6% due to new product launches and software platform maturity. For CY-2018, I expect its yearly sales would reach approximately $6 billion or $6 per share. At a maximum P/S multiple of 3x, I expect the stock to reach $18 sometime in the next 12 to 15 months.

As I explained in a previous article, AMD’s indebtedness is the toughest enemy for its stock. Offering a P/S multiple of more than 3x isn’t possible for me, since AMD’s high debt-load will prevent it from being profitable in the foreseeable future. Despite that, the stock has significant upside left. I believe for long-term investors it’s the right time to buy the stock.

Disclosure: I/we have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours.

I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article.

Time Magazine exclusively uses iPhone to photograph portraits for ‘Women Firsts’ special project

iPhones have been used in a multitude of different photography projects, including many magazine covers, movies, and more. Now, Time explains that it has exclusively used an iPhone to shoot its “Women Firsts” edition this month…

Time Magazine this month is highlighting “women who are changing the world” by telling stories of women such as Shonda Rhimes, Ellen Degeneres, Hillary Clinton, Nikki Haley, and more.

The photographer responsible for all of the portraits in this month’s Time Magazine is Luisa Dörr, a 28-year-old who is making a name for herself on Instagram with her photographs that are exclusively shot on an iPhone.

She explains in an interview with Time that the decision to shoot exclusively with an iPhone was met with confused reactions by many of the powerful women shoe photographed for this project:

Photographing people on the street and my friends with the iPhone is one thing. Photographing powerful, famous women is quite another. At first, it was difficult. The subjects were surprised to see someone like me. I felt like they were expecting to see someone older and more senior, with a few assistants and many cameras and lighting setups.

>Usually we didn’t have very much time with the subjects, because they have extremely busy schedules, so the photographs had to be taken quickly. The shortest shoot was two minutes and the longest shoot was 20 minutes, but most shoots were around five to 10 minutes.

She also says that she used an iPhone 7 for the majority of her shots, but some were from devices as old as the iPhone 5. She also says she uses the first-party Camera app wtith HDR:

I used my iPhone 5 for the first portrait session of Mary Barra, and then changed to the iPhone 6, and then the 6S Plus. During the course of the project, the iPhone 7 was released, so I was able to photograph the last 36 subjects with the iPhone 7.

I use the regular camera, in the square format. And because in FIRSTS we were working with natural light and it was complicated to play around with even a little bit of light control, I started using automatic HDR. In Janet Yellen’s portrait, for instance, with HDR I can have detail in her face and in the sky.

It’s a pretty interesting story and the full coverage is definitely worth a read on Time:
