Vertu’s Signature Touch puts the luxury back into specs

The goodies don’t stop there. Most notably, the 13-megapixel main camera is actually certified by the renowned camera maker Hasselblad, so we look forward to giving it a test drive. Then there’s the acoustics part: This new model packs a pair of speakers that are tuned by Bang & Olufsen, which should sound just as loud and crisp as the ones on the Ti. And if you’re into it, the speakers also support Dolby Digital Plus surround sound. While they’re at it, Vertu also got B&O to help craft the optional over-ear headphones, which feature aircraft-grade aluminum, lamb leather and volume remote control. You can even get a Vertu-branded Bluetooth speaker for the phone, but it likely won’t sound as good as the B&O-tuned headphones.

The Signature Touch also features a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 64GB of storage (no microSD expansion) and a modest 2,275mAh battery. Like its predecessors, this Android 4.4 device is hand-assembled with several tough materials, including Grade 5 titanium for the casing, toughened zirconia for the ear pillow and a large piece of fifth-gen sapphire crystal for the screen. Then you get to pick the skin — calf, lizard or alligator — and a color it offers, if any (we dig the Claret Leather and Pure Jet Red Gold editions). You end up with a 192g-heavy and 10.65mm-thick phone, which is a given for such a tough, masculine luxury device.

Speaking of luxury, Vertu’s renowned concierge service plus exclusive access to events are included with this new phone, and you can check them out via their respective apps. However, it’s worth reminding that the concierge service is only free for the first year, and then it’s about $2,800 each year should you wish to keep using it. The Signature Touch also comes with the Vertu Certainty package, which includes iPass’ complimentary global WiFi, as well as Kaspersky’s security apps plus Silent Circle’s communication encryption service.

As nice as the Signature Touch sounds, let’s face it: Most of us here will never splash out $10,300/€7,900 for the base model, let alone $21,900/€16,900 for the maxed-out Pure Jet Red Gold flavor. But then again, it’s made for folks with extraordinarily deep pockets, instead of us mere mortals. On the bright side, we won’t need to feel sorry for those who end up buying this surprisingly up-to-date bling phone, and Vertu deserves at least a pat on the back for finally recognizing and fixing its age old problem. Now, do excuse us while we set up a crowdfunding page to help us get a, ahem, review unit.

Samsung’s Galaxy S9 will reportedly copy the iPhone X’s signature feature, obviously – BGR

Every new iPhone comes with at least one signature feature, something no other iPhone has. In many cases, that hardware and/or software feature is not yet available on competing devices. The iPhone X has two such features. While both of them are already available over on Android to some degree, one of them reaches far beyond anything the industry has ever seen before.

But guess what: A new report suggests that Samsung’s upcoming new Galaxy S9 could be the first Android flagship phone to copy the iPhone X’s best feature. Obviously.

Apple’s iPhone X has an-all screen design that’s unlike anything else found on competing devices. The other signature feature is the TrueDepth camera that enables the 3D facial recognition feature called Face ID. That’s also something unlike anything else found on Android flagships.

It’s no secret that Samsung is a fast follower in the mobile business. Sure, the Galaxy S8 came with an all-screen before the iPhone X was even announced. But the all-screen iPhone has been in development for years, and Samsung Display is a key partner. It’s very likely Samsung has known for a long while that an all-screen iPhone was in the works for 2017, since Samsung display is the sole supplier of the iPhone X’s OLED screens. Why do you think that Apple is afraid Samsung will steal its foldable iPhone design?

But that doesn’t mean the Galaxy S9 will necessarily copy the iPhone X’s notch design next year. What Samsung might do, according to a tipster with a solid track record, is copy the actual contents of the notch.

Apple calls the notch a “tiny space” at the top of the iPhone X. In it, there’s basically a miniaturized Kinect that can scan faces in 3D, providing secure logins that can’t be hacked with a picture. That’s not something Samsung can say about its existing facial recognition features inside the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8.

According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy S9 will have a “3D sensor front camera,” which would basically be Samsung’s version of a TrueDepth camera and sensor array.

We still have a long way to go until February or March when the Galaxy S9 should be unveiled, so we’ll probably learn more about Samsung’s Face ID feature in the coming months. But if this rumor is true, it’ll be interesting to see how Samsung plans to make it happen. Manufacturing TrueDepth cameras is major bottleneck for iPhone X production. So if it’s a problem for Apple, it might be a problem for Samsung as well.

Vertu releases second generation Signature Touch phone with Bentley

If there’s one thing common with carmaker Bentley and smartphone manufacturer Vertu, it is that they both manufacture products for the “luxury” end of the market, and in that, their partnership is a logical one. Last year, Vertu launched the Signature Touch phone that retailed for USD$11,300. They also partnered with the carmaker to launch Vertu for Bentley phone which retailed for around USD$15,900.

vertu_bentley_2

Granted that us mere mortals will never be able to own one – because really, we have so much more important things to spend our USD$15,000 on – we’re still going to tell you that Vertu and Bentley are still at it. This time, they’re putting out a second generation Signature Touch phone with Bentley’s markings on it. This makes it the Signature Touch for Bentley smartphone, yours starting at USD$9,000 going up to USD$19,000 for the ones with all the bells and whistles.

vertu_bentley_4

Specs-wise, we should not be able to find any holes in it – it will come with a 5.2-inch FullHD (1080p) display protected by sapphire glass. It will be powered by a current gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. It will give you a 21MP main shooter and a 5MP selfie cam, for the times you need to take a selfie with the phone more expensive than some cars. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and should be able to give you LTE technology, or else you’re wasting your money.

vertu_bentley_3

Of course, the price includes all the perks you get for having a Vertu phone – a dedicated concierge you can reach through the phone, remote locking and wiping services when you lose your $15,000 phone, access to VIP events and all that. The device is handmade in England, and features two-tone Beluga leather and Bentley’s own Hotspur leather. There’s a dedicated Bentley app in it, and there’s the integration with your Bentley automobile (because if you have a Vertu, you probably can afford a Bentley as well).

Vertu Signature Cobra Limited Edition is a gem-encrusted feature phone that costs more than Rs. 2 crore

Vertu Shocks Us Again – Launches Rs 2.3 Cr Worth Vertu Signature Cobra Feature Phone!

VErtu Signature Cobra Header

Vertu, the British manufacturer of luxury, hand-made phones has again shocked us with their launch.

Christened as Vertu Signature Cobra, this is Vertu’s newest launched mobile phones, which costs Rs 2.3 crore or roughly $360,000 a piece.

If you are wondering why should buy it, let us inform you that this is a feature phone, and has limited features pertaining to apps and the Internet.

But, what is the big deal if it is a feature phone? It has got exotic stones which will bedazzle the spectator, and force him to hide his own smartphone.

Vertu Signature Cobra: The Exotic Phone

The primary and main highlight of this super-expensive phone is the beautiful snake wrapped around its frame as if protecting it.

The snake has around 439 rubies and the Snake’s eye is made of emeralds, which costs around Rs 2-3 lakh per Karat, of the highest quality.

There are around 388 components of this phone, which have been assembled by hand in the UK. And Vertu has made only 8 units of this phone.

As of now, Vertu’s Signature Cobra is listed only on JD.com, which is China’s one of the largest e-commerce portal. The listing price of this phone on JD.com is ?2474000, which translates to Rs 2.3 crore ($360,000)

As per the listing information, customers can pay only $145 to book this luxurious phone, and once confirmed, the phone shall be delivered via helicopter when the full payment has been made.

Last year, we had reported another outrageously expensive Vertu phone, which was priced at Rs 2 lakh a piece.

The Logic Behind Vertu’s Cobra Phone Costing Rs 2.3 Crore

Vertu’s phones, in the past, have been described as ‘tasteless trash’ by leading magazines, and have been criticised for creating something which has no importance, but very high cost.

As if, the makers of Vertu (whom Nokia acquired in between, and then sold) are trying to create a status symbol, out of mobile phones.

However, in the case of Cobra based feature phone, the keyword here is the snake, which is regarded as a very important mythological figure for Chinese. And most probably this is the reason it has been listed only in China as of now.

Maybe Vertu understood that there is a market for rich, rubies embedded feature phone with an emerald snake’s eye in China, and that is why they created it in the first place.

But for others, this holds much less significance.

Why do you think Vertu launched such expensive mobile phone? Do let us know by commenting right here.
