How to Capture a Live Photo in FaceTime on iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra

iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra bring Live Photos to FaceTime, allowing you to preserve a special memory while video chatting with friends and family. Whenever you use the new Camera button that’s at the bottom of the screen on a FaceTime call, it captures a photo, but don’t worry – this can’t be done in secret and the other party is always notified when an image is captured.

How to Take a Live Photo in FaceTime

  1. Initiate a FaceTime video call.
  2. While in the call, press on the camera button that’s located at the bottom of the display to the left of the red button for ending a call.
  3. Pressing the camera button captures a photo from the camera of the person you’re chatting with, so if they have the front-facing camera on, you’ll get a full image of their face as if they had taken the photo themselves.
  4. The Live Photo taken from the FaceTime call can then be found in the Photos app along with the rest of your photos.

Every time you take a Live Photo in FaceTime, the person on the other end of the video call receives a message letting them know that a Live Photo was taken, so capturing an image during FaceTime isn’t something that can be done in secret. FaceTime Live Photos also don’t capture audio.

Disable Live Photos in FaceTime

If you don’t want people to be able to take a Live Photo when FaceTiming with you, it’s easy to disable. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to the “FaceTime” option and tap it.
  3. Toggle off “FaceTime Live Photos.”

With this setting toggled off, people you chat with will not be able to use the Live Photo in FaceTime feature. You can still take Live Photos of others, however, as long as their setting isn’t toggled off.

FaceTime Live Photos only works when both FaceTime participants are running iOS 11 and have the option to enable/disable the feature. If someone isn’t using iOS 11 and you attempt to capture a photo, you’ll get a warning that all parties need to be running the new software.

FaceTime Live Photos on the Mac

FaceTime Live Photos are also available on Macs running macOS High Sierra. Capturing an image is done by clicking on the camera button, and toggling off Live Photos can be done on a Mac by opening the FaceTime app, choosing Preferences from the menu bar, and deselecting “Allow Live Photos to be captured during Video calls.”

Live From The Berlin Marathon: You Can’t Outrun Bad Weather

Marathon wisdom told you it was too rainy, too slippery, and too warm for fast times at this morning’s Berlin Marathon, but Eliud Kipchoge refused to be overcome, either by the conditions or by his competitors. He won a race against perhaps the strongest field assembled in the past decade, even after a surprise attack by a debutant marathoner, Guye Adola, threatened to spoil his day. Kipchoge eventually missed the world record by 35 seconds, finishing in 2:03:32—a miraculous time in the circumstances. In both the fact and the manner of his victory, he has laid to rest any debate about who is the best marathon runner of this generation.

Berlin woke up in a cloud. In the forested Tiergarten, where the race starts, it was 57 degrees—significantly too hot for the fastest times—and the air was thick and moist. The official weather forecast said it was 99 percent humidity, but it’s hard to imagine how they missed that final one percent. The air was like soup. Humidity is a problem for elite athletes.

If the atmosphere was thick, so was the sense of expectation. As the three star athletes—Eliud Kipchoge, who ran 2:00:25 in Nike’s Breaking2 experiment earlier this year; Wilson Kipsang, the only man ever to win New York, London, and Berlin; and Kenenisa Bekele, world and Olympic record holder in 5,000 and 10,000 meters, and last year’s Berlin winner—warmed up in front of the start line, they betrayed their states of mind. Bekele looked tight with nerves as he stretched out his arms above his head, while Kipsang and Kipchoge ran some fast sprints and smiled easily to the crowd. Kipsang’s grin cracked briefly when the starter announced his rival, Kipchoge, as “the world’s best marathon runner.”

Thick Air and Slippery Turns

From the start, Kipchoge, wearing a white singlet, black half-tights, and red shoes, tucked in behind the three elite pacers, who had been asked to lead the fastest athletes to halfway in a previously unthinkable split time of 60 minutes and 50 seconds. The rain soon became intense, and it became obvious that nobody was going to run so fast for the first half. Simply turning a corner required care and concentration. Every time the lead pack did so, they slowed considerably. As the rain intensified, Gideon Kipketer, the rangy pacemaker (and Kipchoge’s training partner) screwed his face up into the weather.

The lead pack, which included not just the three big names but the Ethiopian debutant Adola and the Kenyan Vincent Kipruto, made halfway in 61:30, a second or two outside world record pace. In the conditions, it was an excellent split. The weather also started to lift a little, and Kipchoge looked increasingly comfortable.

Bekele, though, was dropped from the lead pack at halfway, unable to live with the pace. He did not finish the race. By 17 miles, only one pacemaker had survived—Sammy Kitwara. He dropped out at the 30-kilometer (18.6 mile) mark, and so—to everyone’s surprise—did Wilson Kipsang, clutching his stomach.

Almost everyone was suffering. Not only was the road slippery, but the athletes’ clothes were sticking to the skin, and—most importantly—all the runners would have found it hard to regulate their temperature. One of the limiting factors in marathon running is an athlete’s ability to dissipate the heat generated while synthesizing the energy needed to run so fast. Mostly, body heat is lost through sweating. But, the thicker and warmer the air, the harder that process becomes.

For the final seven and a half miles, it was Kipchoge, the master, versus Adola, the newcomer. Adola, who is taller and has a scruffier gait, seemed relaxed, and Kipchoge looked actively irritated by the close attention the Ethiopian was paying him. Kipchoge asked Adola more than once to move either in front or behind him. Adola continued as he was, shoulder to shoulder with the senior man. As they jostled, the world record drifted away. At the 35-kilometer (21.7 mile) marker, Kipchoge was around six seconds outside world record pace. But, oddly, it was at this moment that Kipchoge began to smile. Battle was joined.

Race to the Finish

At around 23 miles, Adola attacked, opening a gap of 10 meters and moving to the other side of the road as if to accentuate the distance between he and Kipchoge. The Kenyan responded, and seemed to be reeling Adola in, but the Ethiopian pressed again. Even as the world record drifted toward impossibility, nobody who was watching the race cared. This was thrilling sport, a true duel. With two miles to go, Kipchoge seemed visibly to muster reserves of energy for a final attempt to break Adola, and at the final drinks station at 40 kilometers (24.8 miles), he caught him, and then blew past him.

Kipchoge finished with a kick. When he crested the line, he looked as happy as a lottery winner. He hugged his coach, Patrick Sang, and saluted the crowd. Sang is not normally given to hyperbole, but his pride, minutes after the race had ended, was uncontainable.

“In these terrible conditions, two-oh-three is amazing,” Sang told me. “There was the mental challenge, the physical challenge, the environmental challenge… He is one of the great runners.”

I’d go a step further. Eliud Kipchoge has never broken the world record, but I’ve now watched four races in which he was in shape to do so—the London Marathon of 2016, which he won in 2:03:05, the Rio Olympic Marathon which he won in 2:08:44, the Breaking2 race at Monza which he won in 2:00:25, and today’s Berlin Marathon. In each case, he would have ripped chunks out of the world record in perfect conditions. But he has either been running on a slow course, or in slow conditions, and the title of world-record holder has evaded him. That’s marathon racing. In this sport, you have to be good and lucky.

Kipchoge may never break the world record now. The years, and the marathons, are piling up. He would never admit this, but it’s possible his chance has come and gone. In the final reckoning, it won’t matter. Nobody who watched Kipchoge win those four races could be in any doubt of his superiority. Today’s race was a reminder not just of his physical talents but of his mental fortitude. World record or no world record, he is the greatest.

Snapchat’s animated Bitmoji feature means we can all finally live like Lizzie McGuire

Your tween dreams have finally come true and it’s all down to Snapchat’s new animated 3D Bitmoji feature.

Those of us who whiled away our teenage years imagining ourselves as Lizzie McGuire will be ecstatic to learn you can finally have your very own animated alter ego à la Lizzie. Albeit over a decade too late. Eh, better late than never!

Now, you can add a sassy li’l animated 3D Bitmoji to your video snaps that looks just like you, and acts every inch the augmented reality alter ego.

Lizzie McGuire—the popular teen sitcom from the early 2000s—was clearly ahead of its time, as the show’s eponymous protagonist had her very own animated alter-ego to convey her emotions.

The uncanny parallels between the new Bitmoji and Lizzie McGuire’s envy-inducing alter-ego have not gone unnoticed.

Diehard Lizzie McGuire fans have suggested that the developers over at Snapchat might have borrowed the concept from the tween classic. Shocking.

Meanwhile, Lizzie McGuire-loving Snapchatters are expressing their delight at finally having the chance to live their truth.

Does this mean we’re all basically living in a sitcom about our own lives?

And for those with blonde-haired Bitmoji, their alter-egos even look a little bit like Lizzie. Not jealous at all.

I think Snapchat might have quite a few Lizzie McGuire fans working behind the scenes. I wonder which of our other teen wishes they’ll grant next?

PlayStation Tokyo Game Show: TGS 2017 live stream and PS4 news | Gaming | Entertainment

The Sony PlayStation Tokyo Game show will include a live stream that kicks off at 8am, on Tuesday September 19.

The Youtube embed supplied by Sony appears to confirm that there will either be English captions, or voiceover for the TGS 2017 reveals.

And while we can expect some reveals when it comes to new PS4 news, it’s likely that Sony are keeping the biggest bits back for the PlayStation Experience being held later this year.

Sony have confirmed that there will be 21 playable titles at the TGS PlayStation booth, meaning we could see more from the likes of Code Vein, Detroit: Become Human, Call of Duty: WWII, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

There’s also the chance we could see more about the upcoming Resident Evil 7 DLC being released by Capcom later this year.

No big leaks have arrived that suggest there will be a big announcement during the Tokyo Game Show, although there’s always the chance that new designs of the PS4 could be revealed.

As an example, last year saw the Final Fantasy XV Luna Edition PS4 unveiled, which could be something that Sony are planning to do again in 2017.

One gaming rumour that has popped up recently is that Shenmue 1 and 2 could be getting the HD Remastered treatment with revamped versions of the Dreamcast classics heading to PS4 and Xbox One.

Listings for the ‘Shenmue 1 & 2 pack’ have emerged on a number of websites of retailers based in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

There is no extra information, release date, or box art available for the alleged Shenmue 1 & 2 pack for PS4 and Xbox One.

However, the proximity of these retailers may suggest that a local distributor may have sent out some information too early.

Only one of the retailers gives a vague idea of when the title is coming out, with a 2017 release window.

The news should be taken with a pinch of salt until an official announcement comes out from Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki.

Something of that nature could be forthcoming from Sega during the Tokyo Game Show, which runs through this week.

The Emmys this year, for the first time ever, are hosted by late night personality Stephen Colbert. The event will showcase the best television networks, programs, and stars from the last year. HBO leads the way with 110 nominations, while Netflix has 93 nods and NBC has 61. Hulu also earned 18 nominations, with Amazon coming in at 16.

It’s clear that there’s a big focus on streaming platforms at this year’s Emmys, but how can you go about streaming the event on your Apple device?

How to stream the 2017 Emmys live on iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV

As with most CBS events, legal streaming options are a bit limited this year, but there are a few choices. The Emmys will be available to stream via CBS’ streaming service, CBS All Access. This is, of course, a paid streaming platform, but there’s a one-week free trial option.

You can head to the CBS All Access webpage for details on how to sign up. You’ll have to give them your credit card information, but as long as you cancel your subscription within one week, you won’t see any charges. You could simply just cancel as soon as tonight’s Emmys end.

CBS All Access is supported on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. On iOS and tvOS, simply head to the App Store and download the CBS All Access application. For Mac users, you can just visit the CBS All Access webpage. CBS All Access costs $5.99 per month with ads and $9.99 per month without ads.

Not interested in using CBS All Access? Well, CBS says you can log in with a cable login and stream the event via your browser, while the show will also be offered in “most major markets” via streaming TV platforms like Hulu, DirecTV Now, YouTube TV, and Playstation Vue.

Aside from the actual show tonight, there is loads of backstage and red carpet content. All of that can be streamed relatively easily from E!’s YouTube channel. Pre-show and backstage content will also be available via the official Emmys Facebook page beginning at 7:30 PM ET.

The 2017 Emmys officially kick off at 8PM ET this evening, Sunday, September 17th. The pre-show shenanigans begin at 6PM ET on E!.

Destiny 2 review scores LIVE – Is Bungie sequel an improvement on PS4, Xbox One? | Gaming | Entertainment

Destiny 2’s Leviathan Raid and Trials of the Nine events are out now, which means review scores have finally started to appear in full.

After a week of reviews in progress and without scores, sites like IGN and Gamespot have given their verdicts on Destiny 2.

The general concensus is that Destiny 2 makes lots of quality of life improvements, but doesn’t reinvent the wheel.

Gamespot – 8/10: “In true Destiny fashion, if you do something once, you’ll probably end up doing it many more times.

“The difference with Destiny 2 is in the variety and accessibility of what’s available, which cuts down on a lot of the frustration associated with grinding.

And even after you’ve leveled up, there’s still more you can do, from keeping up with daily and weekly challenges to just hanging out with friends.

It’s a much stronger foundation than the original had and one that’s enough on its own to keep people coming back week after week.”

IGN – 8.5/10: “Destiny 2 is a blast out of the gate thanks to its excellent co-op shooter gameplay and strong storytelling in the campaign.

“Not all the features I’d expected to find are here, but it does deliver the same kind of highly social gameplay and rewarding, loot-driven progression that helped the original keep me hooked for hundreds of hours.

“The main concerns right now are a few bugs and lack of event options, but I’ll definitely be sticking around to see this big, action-packed universe develop over time.”

Trusted Reviews – 4.5/5: “Destiny 2 is one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played this year, and it does well to tackle one of the biggest issues I had with the original.

“Featuring a stellar, albeit easy, single-player campaign, excellent combat and class mechanics, and the most enjoyable cooperative multiplayer I’ve seen in a shooter since Gears of War 4, Destiny 2 is a must-have game.

“My only concern is that, once again, it seems hell-bent on sucking every moment of free time you have to unlock its most interesting and entertaining features – which might prove a turn-off for more casual players.”

Metro – 8/10: “That’s a problem for another day though, and we have to admit that despite never feeling fully engaged with the original we have thoroughly enjoyed our time with Destiny 2. It’s not even that it’s less repetitive, there’s just a longer list of things for you to replay again and again.

“But thanks to the revamped patrol zones and less po-faced tone it feels more organic and less sterile than the first game.

“It’s probably still not the experience many imagined when Destiny was first announced, though. And to us the most fundamental issue is that the game really needs to offer something to do other than just shooting.”

GamesRadar – 5/5: “This isn’t Destiny. This is something new. Something bigger, cleverer, richer, and much, much better.

“It’s the idea of Destiny evolved and elevated into something it has never been before. It’s Destiny set free. It’s Destiny democratised. It’s Destiny really allowed to live. I said at the end of my review of the first game that I was leaving a point off the score to leave space for the game’s potential to grow and improve.

“This time round, there’s no need. Destiny 2 is already much more than we ever imagined it would be.”

Facebook live via LTE cap on resolution.

Any idea how I can get FB live to stream higher than 360P on LTE using iPhone7? To clarify, I am the broadcaster. 360P Is really low considering today’s standards… I mean 480 would be minimum in my honest opinion. Any idea how I can change this so my FB Live is HD while on LTE?

Destiny 2 Trials of the Nine LIVE: Guide, tips, tricks for Osiris replacement | Gaming | Entertainment

UPDATE: Destiny 2 developer Bungie has released a new Trials of the Nine teaser trailer, as well as plans to make changes to Crucible.

Teasing the start of the Trials of the Nine competition, Bungie said: “Bring a Fireteam and your spirit of competition. You have a new ritual to learn.”

Bungie also confirmed the start time of the Trials of the Nine game mode alongside the trailer.

“Enter the Trials of the Nine to face your fellow Guardians in high intensity Crucible combat. Stand together and be judged. Succeed and be rewarded! Trials of the Nine goes live on Friday, September 15th at 10AM PT.”

This means Trials of the Nine will be available to play from 6pm UK time on September 15. You can watch the teaser trailer below.

Trials of the Nine could also be accompanied by an update to the Competitive playlist. The new patch will better match players based on their skill ratings.

Bungie said: “According to the finer minds on our team, the Competitive playlist needs some love.

“Too many players are getting stomped by opponents who grossly outmatch them. In order to match you properly with an opponent in your league, we need to apply your skill rating. There is a bug we need to fix to ensure that this is done properly. We are applying that fix right now.

“If you’ve been getting your ass kicked in Competitive, you’ll have more of a fighting chance. If you’ve been kicking ass in Competitive, we’re sending some worthier opponents your way.”

ORIGINAL: Destiny 2 fans are counting down to the Trials of the Nine release date on PS4 and Xbox One.

Replacing the Trials of Osiris end-game event, Trials of the Nine is the go to game mode for fans of PvP Crucible action.

Titled Countdown on Eternity, the first Trials of the Nine multiplayer event has a September 15 release date.

Trials typically end alongside the Destiny weekly resets every Tuesday (September 19 in this case).

Unlike Trials of Osiris from the original Destiny, Trials of the Nine will shift the action to four-vs-four battles, while the rules will change each week.

As the name suggests, this week’s Trials of the Nine is a Countdown event, where the aim is to plant a bomb in the enemy base and defend it until it explodes.

Trials of the Nine will be played under Survival rules on September 22 and September 29.

Check out our Countdown tips and tricks gallery below…

The main things to remember about Countdown is that attackers have two minutes to detonate a charge or eliminate the opposing team.

Defending teams have two minutes to stop the other team from setting and detonating charges. It’s also worth pointing out that as the defending team, you can still lose even if you eliminate the other team, but fail to defuse the charge.

Bungie recommends having one person provide long-range support, and to co-ordinate as a team to nab the power ammo that spawns after 30 seconds.

Players also start the game with one revive token each, so don’t forget to use it on a fallen teammate.

More tips are in the gallery above.

It’s possible we’ll learn more about weekly vendor Xur as part of the event, as he is one of the Agents of the Nine.

And speaking of Xur, the Exotic vendor also makes his Destiny 2 debut on September 15, at 10am UK time.

New Destiny 2 activities and events are starting to trickle out following last week’s launch.

Earlier this week saw the release of the game’s first Raid, titled Leviathan. It was completed a few hours after going live by a clan called The Legend Himself.
