Nokia goes Android 8.0 Oreo: Upgrade confirmed for all new smartphone models

Even HMD Global’s recently launched budget Nokia 3 is due to be moving to Android 8.0 Oreo.

Finnish Nokia mobile maker HMD Global says it will upgrade all its new Nokia smartphones to Android 8.0 Oreo — even its budget Nokia 3.

The forthcoming Oreo update for the Nokia 3 through to its flagship Nokia 8 was confirmed in a tweet by HMD Global’s chief product officer, Juho Sarvikas.

Sarvikas emphasized that the Nokia 3, which has a MediaTek chip, will get the update since there were delays to it receiving Android 7.1.1. All other Nokia devices run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips.

He didn’t reveal when Android Oreo would be rolled out on Nokia devices, but given that Nokia runs on pure Android it’s likely to be sooner than some other handsets with more customizations.

Google announced Android Oreo on August 21 but so far it’s only been available for Pixel and Nexus devices in the Android beta program. Pixel devices should receive it “soon” Google said at the announcement.

Historically, it’s taken several months for handset makers to roll out the first updates, but in many cases devices don’t get an update at all, leading to Android’s fragmentation problem. Google’s Android Oreo Project Treble aims to help device makers deliver security and version updates faster.

HMD has previously promised it would deliver swift monthly security updates and version updates.

The company was among the list of handset makers that Google said would “launch or update devices to Android 8.0 Oreo” by the end of the year. Others included Essential, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, OnePlus, Samsung, Sharp and Sony.

Sony also announced last week which of its existing Xperia handsets will be getting Android 8.0. These include the Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia Touch and Xperia XA1 Plus.

Sony plans to launch the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia ZX1 Compact with Android Oreo.

HTC last month announced Android Oreo would be coming in the fourth quarter to its U11. The U Ultra and 10 will also get it eventually.

FIFA 18 demo release date confirmed for PS4 and Xbox One? | Gaming | Entertainment

A new listing suggests that the FIFA 18 Demo release date has been set for around two weeks before the full launch of the game.

While the traditional FIFA demo has been confirmed as rolling out again this year, EA Sports have yet to make any announcements about it.

Officially, we don’t know when it is set to arrive or what it will include.

We can’t be certain what teams will be playable, although it seems likely that they will be the same that have been available to try out at events like E3 and in the recent beta.

But while EA Sports have yet to tell us everything about their next big demo release, reports have surfaced this week suggesting a release date.

According to a new retail leak, the FIFA 18 release date has been set for September 15 and will weigh in at around 7.3GB.

This would mean it debuting around two-weeks before the full game, something that has happened in the past.

As always, it’ll be worth taking this latest report with a grain of salt, with an official announcement likely coming very soon.

EA Sports have been allowing gamers to play a version of FIFA 18 at various different gaming events, with the teams available listed below:

Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich, PSG, LA Galaxy and Toronto FC.

There could still be changes made to this list before the FIFA 18 demo goes live, however, it seems like a pretty solid list of footy clubs to be included.

And while fans wait to try out FIFA 18, they’ll also get the chance to try their hand at PES 2018.

PES 2018 will be available to play for free this week, as the demo goes live on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The demo for the FIFA 18 rival has an August 30 release date on consoles and PC.

Unfortunately, there’s no official release time for the demo. Instead, a Konami spokesperson told Express Online that it’s in the hands of the respective platform holders.

PlayStation owners can expect the demo to go live at around 11am UK time on PS4 and PS3.

PlayStation Plus September 2017 PS4 free games confirmed? | Gaming | Entertainment

New rumours today suggest that the official PlayStation Plus September 2017 lineup has been leaked.

Sony have yet to confirm what they have planned for next month, but it appears that a rogue advert might have given it away.

A screenshot of the official-looking PlayStation ad was taken online, being sourced from Facebook.

It appears to confirm two PS Plus titles, inFamous: Second Son and Child of Light, which will be the chosen PS4 free games to download next month.

There’s no real way of authenticating the advert, although it would make for another good month for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

When it is announced, the PlayStation Plus lineup will include six games in total, although Sony could decide to add a few extras as well.

The tech giant don’t usually provide a date for when they reveal their PS Plus lineup, although fans are expecting something in the coming days.

Until then, PS Plus subscribers can still download July’s offering, which include a good mix of different genres.

Just Cause 3 is one of the top choices from PS Plus this month, offering fans the chance to try out daredevil feats, including battling helicopters and destroying monuments.

“If last month’s slightly more slow-burning mood left you hankering for something a bit more bonkers then look no further,” a message from PlayStation teases.

“An over-the-top cavalcade of pure, destructive chaos, Just Cause 3 delivers an open-world third-person romp with all the catharsis and tongue-in-cheek dialogue of a classic ’80s action movie.

“As Rico Rodriguez, it’ll be up to you to sire political change in your troubled homeland of Medici through a thoughtful application of rocket launchers, wingsuits, grappling hooks and high explosives.

“Revolution is never easy, but as the old saying goes: if at first you don’t succeed, tie two helicopter gunships together with a grappling hook, cover them in C4 and smash them into an oil refinery… (you can actually do this).”

PS4 gamers can also download Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry, as well as That’s You (PS4), Super Motherload (PS3), Snake Ball (PS3), Downwell (PS Vita) and Level 22 (PS Vita).

And if Sony are true to form, the six new games spread across PS4, PS3 and PS Vita will likely go live on September 5, the first Tuesday of the month.

This is when the tech giant usually have their PlayStation Store refresh and it seems unlikely that this would change for next month.
