SpaceX used rocket returns to Port Canaveral

The first SpaceX rocket booster to execute multiple missions was recovered from a drone ship at Port Canaveral on Tuesday.

Floating in on a platform aboard the company’s “Of Course I Still Love You” drone ship, the rocket will likely be gifted to an agency on the Cape.

That’s the plan, anyway, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said.

“We are thinking of seeing if the Cape might like to have it as something to remember the moment,” he said after the launch.

The timing of such a presentation remains unclear.

In a historic milestone, SpaceX on Thursday launched and landed a previously used orbital rocket booster for the first time. The company has been working toward reusability for years, with the feat expected to lower the cost of commercial space activity and space exploration.

Thursday’s mission delivered a satellite for the Luxembourg-based company SES Satellites into orbit.

Eventually, Musk has said, he wants to help make humans a multi-planet species, with some people residing on Mars.
