Xbox One officially plays Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 now. Xbox Live head Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb announced the additions to the backwards compatibility list on his personal Twitter account.

Save files and DLC can all be transferred from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One over the cloud, so you won’t have to lose all that progress on your trophies.

And hey, Beat’n Groovy is also playable! Triple score!

Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 were great, but it’s time to move on

I am one of many Mega Man fans who still holds on to hope that I’ll play another new game soon. Mega Man 9 was announced to great applause when we found out it was taking the series back to its 8-bit roots. Making such a game has become commonplace with even Sonic the Hedgehog and Double Dragon doing the game thing these days, but at the time, it was unprecedented.

What shocked us even further was that the game came out, and it was actually better than a good many of the NES Classics!

Mega Man 10 came out to less fanfare, and while fun, it was obvious the appeal of Mega Man 9 was a one-time magical feeling. This is why Mega Man 11, if there ever is such a thing, needs to move the series forward. New graphics, new design, never everything.

I have a wishlist of Capcom making a more expressive Mega Man, like his design in Mega Man 7 or Super Smash Bros., mixed with the mobility of Mega Man X. We’ll just have to see if Capcom has any such game in the works.

In the meantime, play Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 on your Xbox One for old time’s sake, and if you’re feeling super nostalgic, the Mega Man Legacy Collection is an absolute blast!
