CLERMONT-FERRAND, France – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Regulatory News:
CARBIOS (Euronext Growth Paris: ALCRB), Pioneer company in the development of bioindustrial solutions dedicated to the life cycle of plastic and textile polymers, announces the start of construction of its industrial demonstration plant for the enzymatic recycling of plastic waste in PET. The demonstrator is located near Lyon at the KEM ONE site in the Vallée de la Chimie, the heart of innovation and industrial production in the chemical, environmental and cleantech sectors. Carbios is supported and advised by TechnipFMC for the engineering and monitoring of the construction of this demonstrator1.
The objective of the demonstrator is to generate enough technical data to define the key parameters for each stage of the process on a sufficient scale to project the operation of future industrial units. The planned operation in the second quarter of 2021 will allow the establishment of complete process engineering documents (from waste to monomers) for the construction and implementation, by a licensee, of the first industrial unit (estimated capacity between 50 and 100 kt per year).
The demonstration unit will make it possible to validate the technical, environmental and economic performance of the innovative technology developed by Carbios and to produce batches of monomers in order to guarantee the technical and regulatory validations of recycled PET with our future licensees.
Martin Stephan, Deputy CEO of Carbios adds : “Our technology responds to very strong market demand, and in particular from the major brands of our Consortium such as L’Oréal, Nestlé Waters, PepsiCo, Suntory Beverage & Food Europe, all of which have made ambitious commitments in terms of sustainable development. This demonstrator will be the showcase of Carbios allowing to validate the economic and technical performance of our process and to ensure the training of our future licensees. “
Antoine Sévenier, Carbios Industrial Development Director comments : ” The demonstrator will notably allow testing of different waste streams; and potentially adapt certain stages of our process to the specifics of collection systems. I am very excited to see our revolutionary technology industrialize and become a commercial reality in the near future. “
Carbios is a green chemistry company whose innovations meet the environmental and sustainable development challenges faced by manufacturers. Since its creation in 2011 by Truffle Capital, the Company has developed, thanks to biotechnology, two industrial processes that are revolutionizing the biodegradation and recycling of polymers. These innovations, made possible thanks to the support of Bpifrance (THANAPLAST ™ Project, OSEO ISI), constitute a world first and make it possible to optimize the performance and the life cycle of plastics and textiles by exploiting the properties of highly specific enzymes.
Carbios’ economic development model is based on the industrialization and marketing of its products and / or enzymes, technologies and bioprocesses through license concessions directly or via joint ventures to major manufacturers in the sectors affected by the Company’s innovations. As such, Carbios created in September 2016, the Carbiolice joint venture, in partnership with Limagrain Ingrédients and the SPI fund operated by Bpifrance. This company, over which Carbios has majority control, will exploit the first technology licensed by Carbios by producing enzymatic granules used in the manufacture of biodegradable and bio-based plastics.
Carbios benefits from Bpifrance’s “Innovative Company” qualification, which allows the Company’s securities to be eligible for investment in mutual funds for innovation (FCPI).
