A whole new set of Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go. While we’re still probably a few months away from the release of “Gen 3” Pokemon, it’s never too early to start looking at some of the new Pokemon and see how they might impact the game. We’re going to take a look at all of the Pokemon that will be included in Pokemon Go‘s next wave of releases based on their types.
Today we’re going to look at the sturdy Steel-Type Pokemon. Steel-Type Pokemon have a lot of potential in Pokemon Go thanks to their ton of resistances and few weaknesses, but the ones we’ve seen so far have been underwhelming at best. That’s all going to change when Gen 3 Pokemon get added to the game, as several of the new generation’s best Pokemon are Steel-Type. In fact, all but one of Gen 3’s Steel-Type Pokemon are pretty impressive and should have a place in Pokemon Go‘s metagame. Here’s a look at the next set of Steel-Type Pokemon to be added to Pokemon Go:
Of all the Steel-Type Pokemon coming soon to Pokemon Go, the only one that won’t make an impact is the diminutive Mawile. Although Mawile has an interesting set of types (it’s a Fairy/Steel dual type), its pathetic stats means that it won’t have any real impact in the game.
Mawile is designed based on the futakuchi-onna, a Japanese monster that looks like a woman, but has a second mouth on the back of its head. While Mawile has a diminutive body, it has a massive second set of jaws extending from the back of its head. In battle, Mawile usually fights with its back to its opponent to use its only weapon more effectively.
Aron, Lairon, and Aggron
A Rock/Steel dual-type Pokemon, Aggron will probably become a top tier gym defender thanks to its ultra high Defense stat. Aggron’s defense stat is on par with that of Steelix or Cloyster, only it has a much higher Attack stat than either of those Pokemon. Basically, Aggron is a Pokemon that won’t take a lot of damage, but will be able to dish out a lot of pain.
Unfortunately, Aggron isn’t a very bulky Pokemon, so it won’t be able to absorb a lot of damage like a Blissey or Snorlax. Because it’s a Rock-Type Pokemon, it also has a couple of weaknesses….although it should be very useful in raids against Legendary Birds or other Flying-Type Pokemon.
Beldum, Metang, and Metagross
A whole lot of Pokemon Go players can’t wait to get their hands on Metagross, which should become one of the most powerful non-Legendary Pokemon in the games. Metagross is a great Pokemon that combines the natural defensive capabilities of a Steel-Type Pokemon with the high attack power of a Psychic-Type Pokemon.
Metagross has stats on par with Tyranitar, although its Stamina stats are a little bit lacking. However, it’s got one of the higher Defense stats in the game, so this should still be a great Pokemon to bring to just about any battle…except for maybe a fight against a Fire or Dark-Type Pokemon. Seriously, Metagross is probably the must have Pokemon of Gen 3, and we can’t wait to get its hands on it.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire was the first set of Pokemon games to have more than two sets of Legendary Pokemon. In addition to the powerful mascot Legendary Pokemon (the Pokemon that appear on the boxes of the game) and the new Flying-Type Legendaries Latios and Latias, the games also had a set of Legendary Golems that were kind of just….there. Each golem was hidden in a secret cave that could only be unlocked through a random pattern or sequence of events. And while they were cool to find, none of the Legendary Golems were exactly impressive in battle.
One of those Legendary Golems is Registeel, a pure Steel-Type Pokemon with shoddy Attack and Stamina stats. Registeel’s stats are similar to Forretress, which makes it a pretty disappointing Legendary Pokemon.
Jirachi is a Mythical Pokemon, so we’re not sure how Pokemon Go plans to introduce it into the game. So far, we haven’t seen any sign of Mew or Celebi, so we’re not expecting to see Jirachi anytime soon either.
Jirachi is known as the “Wish Pokemon” and is supposed to be the personification of a shooting star. While it grants wishes to those who encounter it, it can also use the move Doom Desire that rains down a ton of damage on its opponents.
