My favorite game these days has been Tiger Woods Golf 10 for the Nintendo Wii. Its really one of the most realistic and fun games I've played in a long time. It's joy has not come and gone either – I've been playing this game for a few hours a week for about the past 3 months.
If you have not seen the game yet this is basically the golf version of a Madden or NBA game. You are given a slew a game play options from making a character and starting your own career, playing your friends, match play and even frisbee golf (new to this version of the game).
The career play in this game has been designed really well. It is meant to be challenging, exciting and a little devastating – just like the game of golf. You are initially given a PGA Tour amateur schedule with tournaments of varying structure. There are normal tournaments and match play tournaments, different prize pools and of course each tournament is played on a different course. The scenery and the beauty and serenity of this game makes it perfect as a daily get away from everyday life, if you do not have time to make it to the real golf course.
If you do not do well in your first few tournaments, do not worry you are not expected to. The game gets some getting used to, you most likely will get the fairway hits with ease but putting usually becomes the really challenging part to new players. Also taking into account the effects that wind and elevation have on your distance is a skill that new players slowly develop. But this is what makes the game fun – you can not just come into the game and start rocking out you need to learn the intracacies. Once you've mastered the game you can test yourself against the best players who are smashing some serious numbers and play on some very difficult courses.
Good luck on the greens!
