Fortnite UPDATE: Good news and bad news for Battle Royale fans as mobile downloads surge

Fortnite Battle Royale continues to go from strength to strength right now, especially on mobile where it’s become an unrivaled success story in relatively few days and with invites restricted to invite only.

But in the wake of this Epic smartphone release, Battle Royale fans have been handed some good and bad news about the hottest game right now.

We’ll start with the good news.

According to the efforts of dataminers (via Fortnite Intel) it looks like the game could soon launch a new replay or theatre mode for Fortnite Battle Royale.

During the launch of the games last update, Patch V3.3.0, some new files were added to the game and in particular one folder titled ‘Replay’ strongly suggests this new mode could be in the works.

The folder appeared in the sounds directory and according to Fortnite Intel, it included a number of audio files for your standard playback controls.

On top of this a new ‘Replay Browser’ was added to the games UI, which suggests that players might be able to browse multiple replays inside the game.

As if that wasn’t enough evidence, several icons were added to the Replay folder which included everything from pause, fast-forward icons to cameras. You can see these below the gallery.

Obviously, at the moment nothing has been confirmed by Epic Games, but with so many signs, it would suggest something is in the works for the game.

With the good news out the way, let’s break the bad news to you.

Blitz, the current limited time event that’s gone down a storm with fans is about to get a damn sight harder.

Epic Games took to Reddit last night to confirm they were making significant changes to the Blitz LTM in a hotfix scheduled to go live at some point today.

Writing to fans, JustMooney1, the games Community Coordinator told Redditors:

“Today, we will be hotfixing the Blitz Limited Time Mode in order to lower the amount of building resources gained from floor loot and farming.

“Having tons of resources is a blast, and our goal with the mode was to make it easier to gain resources due to the storm moving in so much faster.

“We believe that our initial resource numbers were a bit too abundant, and are making this adjustment to ensure there is still some risk/reward when farming in Blitz.”

According to Epic, the following changes will occur to the Blitz LTM:

  • Floor loot resources reduced from 100 to 60.
  • Farming resources increase reduced from 200% to 150%.

New Replay buttons were found in the latest patch

As mentioned at the start of this article, sales of the games recent Fortnite mobile iOS release have been staggeringly good for Epic Games.

The app launched at the tail end of last week but topped the iOS charts in 47 countries less than 24 hours after launch – ranking within the top 10 in 58 of those countries.

More recently this week it’s also been reported that players spent $1 million on in-app purchases within the first 72 hours.

According to data released by Sensor Tower, the Battle Royale game has now amassed over $1.5 million worldwide.

The same report also identified that sales were based on cosmetic in-app purchases only, which is roughly a third of the revenue that Pokemon Go earned in its first four days.

Not bad, especially when you consider it has been released as ‘invite only’ and not released to the wider public.
