In this Destiny 2 xur guide, we’ll be going over how to track down and find some of the best merchants and vendors in the game, so you know exactly where to find some of the best weapons and armor pieces in the game. Aside from that, we’ll also be detailing Xur (and where to find Xur), set to be one of Destiny 2’s most sought-after and elusive vendors, just like he was back in the original game.
For all other things Destiny 2-related here on USgamer that aren’t Xur related, make sure to go check out our Destiny 2 guides walkthrough hub, including a complete list of every character subclass and ability in the game, as well as a walkthrough of every Strike in the game.
Destiny 2 Xur Guide
The main thing you need to know about Xur is that he’s extremely elusive. He’ll only appear at the weekends (Friday through to Monday), and only in one specific location in Destiny 2 at a time. This means that he could potentially be anywhere on any given weekend, which means we’ll be adding a different Xur location section to this guide each and every weekend.
Where is Xur? Destiny 2 Xur Location October 13 – October 16
While we don’t yet know the exact location of Xur in Destiny 2, we do know exactly when he’ll be appearing in the game. Every Friday at 2 am PDT/5am EDT, Xur makes a grand reappearance in Destiny 2 in an unspecified location, with several Exotic items for sale for Legendary Shards.
So far, Xur has appeared in the European Dead Zone, Titan, Io, and Nessus, meaning the next time he reappears on Friday, October 13, he’ll be revisiting a planet he’s previously appeared on. Keep an eye on this Xur guide, as we’ll be updating this guide the second we have any information on the next location of Xur.
In this section of our Destiny 2 Xur Location Guide we’ll keep an archive of where Xur has been and what he has sold.
Destiny 2 Xur Location – October 6 – 9
From October 6 through to October 9, Xur could be find tucked away near the top of a small clif in the European Dead Zone. He was right near a crashed Fallen ship, which required some platforming up the face of the cliff to reach.

- Vigilance Wing (Exotic pulse rifle) – 29 Legendary Shards

Destiny 2 Xur Location – September 29 – October 2
For the period of September 29 to October 2, Xur reappeared on Io, carrying a brand new load of Exotic goods. He appeared at the usual time of 10am BST/2am PDT/5am EDT on Friday September 29 and will disappear in the very early hours of Tuesday, October 3 (it’s very early, so really you need to be visting no later than the 25th).
Check just below for the screenshot of exactly where to find Xur on Io. He’s hiding out in a small cavern this time, accessible once you’ve made it past the enemy base near Giant’s Scar.

Previously, the Xur location for September 15 to September 17 was on Nessus, located in the Watcher’s Grove section of the planet. This all changed once the weekly reset came around on Tuesday morning, and Xur vanished from the location, not appearing again until the following Friday. This will happen each and every week, so keep your eyes on this guide for when we reveal Xur’s location for September 22-26.
Just below, you’ll be able to find a list of all the Exotic items that Xur was previously selling on September 15-19. When will Xur appear in Destiny 2?
More recently however, Bungie posted the image below through their official twitter account, outlining the upcoming activities that players can expect to be in Destiny 2 from the week after it launches. According to the image, Xur will be appearing in Destiny 2 on September 15.
Destiny 2 Xur Legendary Shards Currency
Back in the original Destiny, you had to save up enough Strange Coins in order to purchase items from Xur. This system is basically the same in Destiny 2, except a new currency called Legendary Shards is replacing the Strange Coins.
You could earn Strange Coins from doing special events and activities, such as Raids, Nightfall Strikes, and by dismantling any Exotic weapons or armor pieces that you weren’t using any more. This is more or less the same in Destiny 2, and you’ll have to gain entry to missions like Nightfall Strikes and Raids if you want to earn enough Legendary Shards in order to purchase Exotic gear from Xur.
Destiny 2 Vendors Guide
Basically speaking, vendors are the NPCs who you’ll go to in Destiny 2 to purchase new weapons, armor, and other gear items. They will likely be found on all four of the planets in Destiny 2, these being IO, Titan, Nessus, and the European Dead Zone on Earth, where the Farm social hub is located.
But vendors don’t work exactly like they did in the first Destiny, as Bungie senior gameplay designer Jon Weisnewski revealed: “There has been some changes to how the vendors work. Predominantly, you’re going to be looking to engrams that drop and leveling up reputation with different vendors to get packages to find weapons. […] The faction vendors are there, and there will be a set of Dead Orbit weapons, a set of New Monarchy weapons, a set of Future War Cult weapons.”
So, rather than just selling weapons and armor to players, you’re going to have a choice of which faction to take your Engrams to, in order to level up your relationship with said faction. It’s an interesting twist on the vendors, and we’ll keep an eye out for any particularly nice bonuses that any of the factions offer.
Xur may not be back just yet, but the brand new Leviathan Raid is, and it’s already proving to be one of the hardest challenges in all of Destiny. Head over to our Destiny 2 Leviathan Raid guide for a complete walkthrough, with puzzle solutions and boss guides.
