UPDATE: Destiny 2 developer Bungie has released a new Trials of the Nine teaser trailer, as well as plans to make changes to Crucible.
Teasing the start of the Trials of the Nine competition, Bungie said: “Bring a Fireteam and your spirit of competition. You have a new ritual to learn.”
Bungie also confirmed the start time of the Trials of the Nine game mode alongside the trailer.
“Enter the Trials of the Nine to face your fellow Guardians in high intensity Crucible combat. Stand together and be judged. Succeed and be rewarded! Trials of the Nine goes live on Friday, September 15th at 10AM PT.”
This means Trials of the Nine will be available to play from 6pm UK time on September 15. You can watch the teaser trailer below.
Trials of the Nine could also be accompanied by an update to the Competitive playlist. The new patch will better match players based on their skill ratings.
Bungie said: “According to the finer minds on our team, the Competitive playlist needs some love.
“Too many players are getting stomped by opponents who grossly outmatch them. In order to match you properly with an opponent in your league, we need to apply your skill rating. There is a bug we need to fix to ensure that this is done properly. We are applying that fix right now.
“If you’ve been getting your ass kicked in Competitive, you’ll have more of a fighting chance. If you’ve been kicking ass in Competitive, we’re sending some worthier opponents your way.”
ORIGINAL: Destiny 2 fans are counting down to the Trials of the Nine release date on PS4 and Xbox One.
Replacing the Trials of Osiris end-game event, Trials of the Nine is the go to game mode for fans of PvP Crucible action.
Titled Countdown on Eternity, the first Trials of the Nine multiplayer event has a September 15 release date.
Trials typically end alongside the Destiny weekly resets every Tuesday (September 19 in this case).
Unlike Trials of Osiris from the original Destiny, Trials of the Nine will shift the action to four-vs-four battles, while the rules will change each week.
As the name suggests, this week’s Trials of the Nine is a Countdown event, where the aim is to plant a bomb in the enemy base and defend it until it explodes.
Trials of the Nine will be played under Survival rules on September 22 and September 29.
Check out our Countdown tips and tricks gallery below…
The main things to remember about Countdown is that attackers have two minutes to detonate a charge or eliminate the opposing team.
Defending teams have two minutes to stop the other team from setting and detonating charges. It’s also worth pointing out that as the defending team, you can still lose even if you eliminate the other team, but fail to defuse the charge.
Bungie recommends having one person provide long-range support, and to co-ordinate as a team to nab the power ammo that spawns after 30 seconds.
Players also start the game with one revive token each, so don’t forget to use it on a fallen teammate.
More tips are in the gallery above.
It’s possible we’ll learn more about weekly vendor Xur as part of the event, as he is one of the Agents of the Nine.
And speaking of Xur, the Exotic vendor also makes his Destiny 2 debut on September 15, at 10am UK time.
New Destiny 2 activities and events are starting to trickle out following last week’s launch.
Earlier this week saw the release of the game’s first Raid, titled Leviathan. It was completed a few hours after going live by a clan called The Legend Himself.
