For years, the scenes of some great science fiction films have left many dreaming. When will the flying car be? “The Fifth Element”, “Blade Runner”, “Total Recall” … there are many futuristic films in which getting around in a flying vehicle is part of everyday life. In reality, one man in particular tries to approach the dream: Franky Zapata. On August 7, on BFM Business, the inventor from Marseille, already known for the prowess of “Flyboard Air”, confided that he had been working on a flying car for a long time and that the first flight tests should be organized very soon. “We have been working on it since 2017. It has been a great obstacle course,” he said in particular. But today, according to the inventor, the prototype is ready, “the chassis of the car flies autonomously”.

Tests on board should be able to be organized “around the month of September, October”. With the chain, Franky Zapata did not hesitate to detail his plans for these new types of vehicles. The entrepreneur claims to have two “big projects of flying taxis, one on the short distance, one on the medium distance, to fit into what is currently lacking in civil aviation”.

A budget of 10 million euros

Believing that the latter only develops machines for long journeys, the inventor says he wants to use his devices for urban transport and city-to-city transport. The only problem: the financing. “We have the technology for that, but unfortunately we are going to need a lot more money than what we have today,” said the Marseillais, who owns 100% of his company. According to him, to be able to complete the development of his two flying taxi projects, it would take around 10 million euros of budget. For now, he says he is not yet
