Now that Apple’s Home Kit is here, I’m going through my house upgrading various automation products. For the past few years I’ve been using a Nest Thermostat ( ), but ecobee recently released a Home Kit compatible version of their thermostat.
As the video above shows, you can use voice commands to set the desired temperature, to check the actual temperature at the various sensors throughout your house, even ask about humidity.
However, when it came time to set the house to home, away, or resume schedule, things did not always work the way we wanted. In the end we were unable to get the darn thing to resume schedule, though in other off-camera attempts it DID work (rarely).
Overall the voice processing works good for the commands you might use often, but it isn’t without its glitches. Still, iOS 9 promises to both improve that, as well as increase features. Stay tuned to my blog for more details!
