Red Ring of Death – Gamers Nightmare!

We all love our Xbox 360s and I'm sure that most gamers will agree with me that it's a great console but rather a serious problem which is unreliability. More often than not when a 360 decides to pack up, it's due to the infamous Xbox 360 Ring of Death which is caused by a general hardware failure in the system. The only way you can properly fix this is by either sending it back to Microsoft, finding a repair shop or by fixing it yourself.

The Ring of Death is an indication of a general hardware failure which is displayed as 3 red lights which will flash around the power button and unfortunately this can happen to many Xbox systems because of a common design flaw. First of all, the clamps that hold the heat sinks and lock in the 2 chips are not enough enough – this allowing movement between them, causing warping of the mainboard at excessive temperatures. By the overheating of the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and CPU (Processor) the high temperatures can allow movement between the chips which then goes on to cause tiny cracks in the sold joints meaning that the electrical signals can not be sent properly anymore.

So what can you do to fix the Red Ring of Death? Well, If your warranty is still valid, it's allways going to be best to get it fixed by Microsoft and this can usually take a number of weeks to get it repaired. On the other hand if you're impatient or your warranty is no longer valid, you could find a repair shop but it will cost you money. The last option you could do is to fix it yourself and I'm not talking about wrapping up your Xbox 360 in a towel and letting it run until your system overheats. There are a lot of myths on the internet about this kind of repair and mostly will end up as an unhappy ending.

The problem with the Towel Trick is that it's one of the fastest ways to fry the components inside your Xbox 360 (as I have done it myself) which will make it more expensive to repair and could result in a new mainboard. After hearing about the xbox 360 towel trick and trying it, it cured the 3 Red Rings for about 5 days but after I was hit by it once again. After the Towel Trick a second time – it was game over for my Xbox 360. I'd left the towel wrapped around it for too long and it overheated because of the excess temperatures, the mainboard was fried and when I switched it on, all I could see were diagonal lines bouncing up and down my TV. The repair shop wanted a fortune for a repair so I decided I would get myself another one.

After buying a second-hand one from eBay – To my disbelief I was hit again by the Red Ring of Death some months later and was seriously thinking about buying a PS3. Before doing this though I decided to look around on the net for a fix.

After doing plenty of reading up about it and checking out out videos and online guides I figured that It's not really that hard and there are a number of guides out there that will show you how to do it properly. Since doing the repair myself, my machine is working the best it ever has for 7 months now so some of them do offer the best help. There are a lot of good YouTube videos and other sites out there that are useful but also there's also a lot of bad info on the internet that can cause more harm to your Xbox than good.

If you have been hit by the 3 Red Rings, your warranty has expired and you want to fix the Ring of Death by yourself then you will need to find a fix guide that is reliable and from a total novice perspective if you've never done anything like this before.

How to Fix Red Ring of Death is a website which was created to explain more about the Red Ring of Death or RRoD (as it's sometimes called) and goes into detail of why you really do not want to be doing things like wrapping your Xbox 360 in towels. It also looks at the best ways you can go about fixing it yourself and with less risk of causing any damage to it – with reviews of fix guides made by the experts.

If you plan on fixing the Red Ring of Death by yourself, it's not as hard as it may seem – Good Luck!

Comparing Cutting Edge VR Devices for 2017

With a torrent of virtual reality devices that have been launched lately, entertainment industry touched a new high. Though the idea about VR has been in technical space for a long time, lately, the IT giants have broken through the long-standing barriers to use it for a range of VR devices. Though some of them need dedicated tethering spots, others can be accessed with a mobile.

Virtual reality is a fascinating way of user-projection in a diverse range of environments through the power of technology. With the use of a headset and motion tracking sensors, you can explore the virtual space. Some of the recently launched VR devices include HTC Vive by HTC, Oculus CV1 by Facebook, and Gear VR by Samsung as well as Daydream by Google.

With the power to use VR using computers and mobile devices, it is an exciting time ahead for VR systems. Though the price ranges differ, the features are similar yet different, depending upon the VR platform the devices are meant for. Thus, let us take a look on the various aspects and key features of different yet latest VR devices.

Experience on Mobile or Tethered

Currently, trending VR devices can be categorized under tethered or mobile. The mobile headsets have space to fit in your smartphones and are basically just a frame with specialized lenses. These lenses ensure that the screen is divided into two images. This turns your smartphone into cutting-edge VR device. The mobile headsets include Google Daydream View and Samsung Gear VR. The downside is that the smartphones are not designed for Virtual Reality, so the picture quality isn’t really good even with the special lenses in the headset. Conversely, the VR devices on the tethered or dedicated platforms, such as Oculus CV1 by Facebook and HTC Vive allow you to walk around in the virtual space while it is physically connected to a computer. Though the attached cables make it restricted and little unwieldy, clarity and feel is higher.

However, you don’t need a strapped up device to your face as the video processing is done in the computer. The dedicated display is in the headset is enough and you don’t need the smartphone or motion sensors. The extra camera tracker improves the image quality and head tracking. However, the Oculus experience beats other VR headsets as it has inbuilt headphones.

Weight of the VR device

If you use all of the above mentioned VR devices, you would notice that HTC is the heaviest at 555 gm, when it comes to net weight. Oculus CV1 weights 470 gm, Samsung Gear VR is 318 gm and Google Daydream is just 220 gm. However, comparing Oculus CV1 or Daydream with HTC, you would notice that even though Oculus is light but HTC has higher room scale and Steam VR is real good.

Exploration and future of VR

When it is about cutting-edge technology and future driven approach, HTC wins hands down over the competitor VR devices. Although it is front heavy, it has two motion controllers and double base Lighthouse stations to get a feel of the “whole room” virtual reality area. It beats the rest in tracking in terms of latency and lag. It is technically impressive as this device has the only VR system that tracks your movement within a ten feet cube instead of from your seat. The motion controllers are more sophisticated than those in the VR devices. Using Stream VR as the content mall, HTC Vive stays way ahead in seamless experience as compared to other competitor devices. It can even connect to iPhones and Android devices to get the messages and alerts while the player is in VR. Some of its features have been already implemented while Google and Oculus are still on it.

Ease of Use

When it is about comfort, Google Daydream comes up on the top. The soft knitted fabric covered headset ensures that it fits snugly and stays comfortable. Some of the reviewers felt that it was like a soft pillow. Powered by Android Nougat, Daydream firs on the Pixel phone snugly and comes with a highly sensitive remote that has the app, home buttons and the volume control. Compared to other VR devices, Google Daydream beats Gear VR in comfort.

Future of VR devices

Cutting edge VR devices using mobile phones are here to stay and that is precisely the reason that Samsung’s Gear VR is the one to bet on. In terms of resolution, it uses 2560 by 1440 Galaxy smartphones with state of art graphics and internal motion sensors that are accurate. The touchpad and the buttons on the side put the VR gadget a notch above the rest. Working through the Samsung’s Milk VR store or the Oculus app, from casual gaming to high end video consumption, there is enough to keep the users occupied.
